Digital pulses are generated by a clock called an oscillator. The pulses can then be processed into meaningful data as bits and bytes. Eight bits make a byte. In this schematic of a byte, the first bit is held high or in the ‘on’ state for the first three bits, but in the low ‘off’ state for the next bit, ‘on’ for the fifth, ‘off’ for the sixth and ‘on’ for the seventh and eight bits.
