Control systems are sensitive to long, unpredictable delays and significant packet losses. The level of sensitivity for delays and packet losses varies between applications. Control applications in general can span from mission-critical brake systems to slow-moving control applications such as heating a large swimming pool. RIIoT™ is relevant when the shortest delay time can be 15 ms and when a small packet loss can be tolerated. Examples of such systems are cooling and heating systems, tank level control, and flow control of fluid.
