Datamate Metal Backshells for 360° Shielding

Designed to complement the field-proven Datamate J-Tek and Mix-Tek wire-to-board connector offering, Harwin supplies a comprehensive range of backshells with a rugged aluminum alloy construction and electroless nickel plating. These accessories increase levels of mechanical robustness and provide necessary EMI/RFI protection for new builds and mid-production modifications. As a result, prolonged operational lifespans can be benefited from even in the most uncompromising of application conditions. Available commercial-off-the-shelf and tested in general accordance with MIL-STD-1377 specifications with results showing a 30 dBs of RF attenuation between 10 kHz and 400 MHz. Capable of 500 mating operations with a working temperature range of -55°C to +125°C.

Datamate backshells for cable-to-board and panel-mount applications accept signal, coax, and power contacts with wire up to 12 AWG PTFE. Female cable versions include attachment features for screening braid, providing strain relief and mechanical protection for additional performance improvements. Available as a kit with jackscrews and circlips included. Band-it ties are recommended and sold separately. The vertical male backshell is designed for panel mount applications and is compatible with both cable and PCB connector styles. Full 360-degree EMI/RFI shielding is delivered once the male/female mating process has been completed. Horizontal male backshells allow for assembly after the connector is mounted to the board and ensure complete shielding when used in conjunction with a ground plane. They suit most applications and offer significant cost savings over comparable Micro-D options. Harwin’s backshells are ideal for applications in aerospace, motorsports, industrial drives and controls, military communications, satellite systems, robotics, and renewable energy infrastructure.
