In summary, there are many different types of ambient lights sensors on the market today and each has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. Rohm’s BH1600 family of analog output ambient light sensor features an output that is proportional to light input, and spectrum sensitivity similar to the human eye. The BH1700 family has similar features, but instead of the analog output a 16-bit digital I2C output is present. Certain models of both families are available in the 1.6 x 1.6 x 0.6 mm WSOF5 package.
