The maxiGRIP™ works by applying steady pressure downwards at the center of the heatsink which applies pressure at the most critical point. The long arms of the spring clip allow a range of usable deflection so that packages of different heights can be used in conjunction with a fixed base heatsink. The forces associated with the clip are distributed to the side and underside of the BGA component and are evenly distributed along all four sides.
