Traditionally, separate decoupling modules were used to isolate power supplies from each other. In a 1 + 1 redundant system, one power supply can power the load by itself and one other unit is added as a spare. An N + 1 redundant system uses three or more power supplies where N represents how many power supplies are needed to operate the load and an additional unit is added as a spare.
